The Greyhound football team began practice this week, as did the teams from Geneva School of Boerne and Comfort. The Champion football squad begins Monday since they held spring drills last May and have to wait a week. For more on the area football teams, be sure to look in the Boerne Star.

Boerne based Aqua Swift Aquatics, led by Coach Jason Schmeltzer, sent five age group swimmers to the Texas Age Group Swimming Championship Swim Meet (TAGS) in Dallas recently.

Boerne ISD held its annual summer baseball camp at Champion High School and 120 young men showed up at this year’s event to improve their baseball skills.

Comfort ISD recently held its annual football camp and close to 50 young men showed up to work on their football skills.

Boerne resident and TMI sophomore Carson Clark recorded an ace on the 11th hole at Tapatio Springs. Clark used a pitching iron from the white tees that measured 129 yards that day. The event was witnessed by friends Colton Shaver and Daniel Fernandez. Clark, 16, has been playing golf for about a year.

The Boerne Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday took a hard stance against the unbridled growth invading the Hill Country by voting down a zoning request allowing the densely populated “horizontal apartments” aimed at Old Fredericksburg Road.

Boerne Independent School District teachers, staff and administrators went back to the future on Tuesday as they vividly were reminded that that future is in their classrooms.

Boerne is perhaps experiencing its worst combined hot and dry summer on record as the month of July provided no relief to the extreme conditions experienced since May and before.

Eight members of Boy Scout Troop 102, chartered by Boerne’s First United Methodist Church, recently returned from BSA Seabase located at Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The Scouts sailed more than 100 nautical miles on a 43-foot sailboat for six days while stopping to snorkel at coral reefs and shipwrecks. The Scouts were able to observe many species of fish, sharks, rays, sea turtles and more. They learned to steer and operate the sails on the ship and were able to fish in allowed areas.
