Library to host a special kind of ‘mixer’

Throughout the year, the Patrick Heath Public Library has had great fun celebrating our 70th anniversary with a variety of fun activities for people of all ages. We’ve offered food history, 1950s music trivia, an afterschool teen party, played bridge and bingo, twisted and shouted to some great live music and displayed photos of Boerne residents in the ‘50s.

New sport

Fall sports got underway at local high schools on Monday as student athletes and coaches began preparations for the upcoming seasons. At Champion, there is a new sport this year as water polo kicked off its inaugural campaign with practice at the Boerne city pool. The Chargers will field both a boys and girls team under the direction of coach Alberto Escalante.

Boerne ISD held its annual summer volleyball camp at Champion High School and about 200 young ladies showed up at this year’s event to work on their volleyball skills.

Comfort author, artist featured at Museum of Western Art

“Luckenbach Legacy: Hondo’s Daughter” opened to record crowds this past Saturday at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville. The exhibit runs through Sept. 17 and features the art of Comfort’s Becky Crouch Patterson.

Guilty

After two days of arguments and several hours of deliberation, a jury found a Comfort man, 46-yearold Jose Jimenez, guilty of indecency with a child, which was the lesser charge tied into charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The Cibolo Center for Conservation is wrapping up its summer youth camps. This week, youngsters participated in an activities camp where they enjoyed things like archery and water kickball, which is played like regular kickball except the bases are small pools filled with water.
