The Boerne Independent School District is proud to announce that Cibolo Creek Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher Dana Rust has been nominated for the 2023 Lori Tullos Barta Outstanding Educator Award by The Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas.
Mrs. Rust was nominated for the award by Cibolo Creek parent Taylor Gebert for providing superior support and encouragement to his daughter Sophia, a CCES Kindergarten student.
Mrs. Rust is in her 21st year of teaching Kindergarten. She taught at Curington Elementary for four years and moved to Cibolo Creek Elementary in 2006 when it opened. Mrs. Rust graduated from Texas Tech University with her bachelor's degree in human development. She then went on to graduate from Schreiner University with her Master of Education in Teaching.
The Lori Tullos Barta Educator of the Year Award is typically presented to a deserving person or team to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
The Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas’ vision is a world in which all members, including those with Down syndrome, are accepted, valued for their uniqueness, respected for their abilities and contributions, and assured the opportunity and choice to create their own path to fulfillment and success.
