With the new year comes the tradition of making New Year’s resolutions. While most resolutions are aimed at improving your life, pet owners should also consider making a resolution or two that will benefit the health of their pets.

It is the start of a new year, so it’s a good time to start incorporating helpful habits into your life.

After the effervescence of December, the long, dark days of January seem a fizzy drink gone flat. But January, lowly stepchild of December, should be justly celebrated for she brings to us a new year shining with hope and promise. Days stretch before us like an untraveled road, waiting for that first step in the journey to our goals and dearest dreams.

Family matriarch, Maggie Dunleavy, uncharacteristically, has invited her dysfunctional family to celebrate both her birthday and the 4th of July at her New Jersey home.

Thanks to the support of our community, voters in the Boerne ISD boundaries voted to pass BISD bond propositions 1 and 2 in May. We are very grateful to the voters for supporting this bond, as it was truly a grassroots effort, led by the Long Range Steering Committee. We are greatly appreciative to the total of over 80 parents, students, staff, and community members who served on the committee, and worked hard to help pass this bond.

Have you recently retired but are now thinking of going back to work? If so, you aren’t alone, as many people are choosing to “unretire.” But if you do reenter the workforce in some capacity, what opportunities might be available to you? And how will your renewed employment affect your financial outlook?

During the Christmas season, I was in conversations where the topic of Jesus and politics came up. At first, it was an uncomfortable place, and my initial reaction was, really? Can’t we enjoy the season without involving politics? However, the idea, the concept of Jesus related to politics, or vice versa, intrigued me enough to consider if there was a deeper and perhaps indeed a contemporary meaning, because ultimately, it seems to me, the deepest issues facing humanity are spiritual in nature and will require spiritual solutions.

Well, sadly we missed the Mars occultation by the Moon Dec. 7 and the Geminids meteor shower on Dec. 14. At least, from my house, it was cloudy both nights. I actually got to see a few moments of Mars and the Moon quite close together on the 7th, but it was fleeting. One of my neighbors texted me asking what that bright pimple looking thing was next to the moon. Such is life as an astronomer, being clouded out.

With 2022 coming to a close, family and friends may be eager to celebrate the new year with fireworks. Many pets, however, may not welcome the loud noises or bright lights that accompany the celebratory event.
