With the omicron variant of COVID-19 still spreading rapidly throughout the county, state and nation, the Kendall County officials are working to set up a county testing facility and to put on more vaccination drives.

The Boerne Planning and Zoning Commission is looking to establish a subcommittee to develop criteria that will guide planners in approving or denying special-use permits for bed-and-breakfasts around town. The concept came up after handfuls of requests were brought before the planners during each meeting since the adoption of the new Unified Development Code last year.

Several dozen school districts across the state were forced to close last week because of the omicron variant of COVID-19, sending home students, staff and teachers. Most school districts planned to reopen on Tuesday following the MLK holiday.

The Geneva School of Boerne canceled classes last Friday and this Tuesday around Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. holiday because of a spike in COVID-19 cases, officials announced.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed five individuals, including Diane Bull of Boerne, to the Specialty Courts Advisory Council. The council evaluates applications for grant funding for specialty courts from the governor’s office and makes funding recommendations to the criminal justice division regarding best practices.

AUSTIN — Texas Secretary of State John Scott last week reminded all eligible Texas voters to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of the January 31 voter registration deadline for the March 1, 2022, primary elections in Texas.

The annual Kendall County Junior Livestock Show took place at the youth agriculture and equestrian center during the first week in January as hundreds of local 4H and FFA youth showed their best animals during the various shows and competitions. The cattle were in the spotlight toward the end of the week as Bailey Fischer (Bib 156) works her Brahman to keep it in line as she paraded around the arena before Addison Page patiently waited behind her Hereford variety for the judges to finish. The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce played host to a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to help celebrate the 2022 Kendall County Junior Livestock Show and Sale. The ceremony took place before the sale at the Kendall County Youth Agriculture and Equestrian Center. The Kendall County Jr. Livestock Show Association provides an opportunity for 4-H and FFA members to exhibit their livestock projects before the public fostering excellence in livestock production skills and practices.
