BOERNE — Kronkosky Place – now called The Center – will ring with Christmas cheer next month as vendors raise funds for the facility that offers services for older adults.
Event planners want everyone to know they’re invited to the first Christmas Bazaar.
Come 9 a.m. Nov. 5, The Center will be filled with more than 20 salespeople and crafters from near and far offering goods from woodcrafted, hand-painted ornaments to wreath arrangements.
“When we talked to people, they said, ‘Ah, that’s a great idea. We love bazaars,’” said Maya Kirl, a volunteer with the center. She noted the vendors hail from San Antonio and other cities outside of Kendall County who “love to come out to Boerne because everybody comes out and buys.”
Meanwhile, a trip through The Center’s public thrift store — which is open daily — emphasizes the importance of Christmas to the facility: The walls are lined with ornaments, Yuletide trees and nativity scenes.
Volunteer Ellen Clark said the team hasn’t even started unpacking the remainder of the store’s Christmas loot.
The team of volunteers putting on the Christmas Bazaar have high hopes of creating a tradition. Clark said the thought of the bazaar came to her on a whim.
“My head,” Clark said when asked where the idea originated. “I don’t know. I’ve always tried to generate money for the thrift store, and I just said, ‘We need to have a bazaar.’ Just like the garage sales.”
She added with a laugh, “Then they said, ‘OK, have one. You do all the work.’” While vendors will be selling macrame, jewelry and crochet rugs during the event, Clark said the thrift store also remains open.
In addition to Christmas wares, the shop is packed full of clothes, necessities and tchotchkes of all kinds.
The vendors at the first Christmas Bazaar will keep the proceeds for their sales, but the $35 fee to participate contributes to The Center’s coffers.
The Center is at 17 Old San Antonio Road.
