Three candidates have thrown their name in the hat for the Republican nomination for Kendall County Precinct 2 commissioner.

Next year, a new individual will serve Kendall County as a commissioner in the fourth precinct – the precinct generally located in the north portions of the county.

On February 8, 2022, Jessie McNeil Powell went home. Jessie was a friend to many, a mother to three and a cherished wife to one.

The Texas Association of Counties describes a justice of the peace as someone who presides over the justice court in cases involving misdemeanors, including hearing traffic and other Class C misdemeanor cases punishable by fine only, hearing civil cases with up to $20,000 in controversy, hearing landlord and tenant disputes, hearing truancy cases, performing magistrate duties and conducting inquests.

The countywide transportation committee is now discussing “controversial” roadway projects, which include greenfield recommendations, and community responses already are starting to heat up.

The six GOP hopefuls seeking the Precinct 2 Kendall County justice of the peace and Precinct 2 county commissioner positions in the March 1 primary participated in the first of two candidate forums sponsored by The Boerne Star at Kronkosky Place on Wednesday night to give their thoughts to the community and discuss issues like transportation, growth and public safety.

During the second of two candidate forums hosted by The Boerne Star last Wednesday evening, six Republican candidates for Kendall County judge and Precinct 4 county commissioner met at Kronkosky Place to present their qualifications to the community and discuss issues like transportation, water scarcity and rapid development.

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Mail-in ballot applications for the March 1 primary are being rejected by almost 40 percent – largely because of a missing ID number, which is now required after a new voting bill passed the legislature last year.

The Cibolo Center for Conservation recently recognized Laura Haning, the director of the City’s Planning and Community Development Department, for her leadership during the creation of the Unified Development Code.

The Geneva School of Boerne recently announced it has hired Melissa McKenzie as its new development director. She joined the school’s advancement team on February 1.
