COMFORT– Just hear those sleigh bells ring ting tingling. It’s that joyful time of year again when The Greater Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors one of the most popular Christmas extravaganzas in the Texas Hill Country: Christmas in Comfort.

It is that time of year when we welcome the first cool breaths of the north wind, the shortening of the photoperiod, warm cast iron vats of venison chili, and the addition of pumpkin spice to everything that we eat, smell or wear. The squirrels are secretly storing away their winter food cache, winter migrants are making their way through, and the leaves are slowly changing. Fall is here, so we are here to help you prepare your lawns and lands for the cooler months ahead in this two-part series.

Hill Country water advocates from across the region gathered in Bandera, TX on October 13th for a day of learning, connecting, and strategizing for water stewardship in our region. “The work to protect our aquifers and rivers is challenging but vital to the long-term prosperity of the Hill Country. It makes all the difference to be able to work together, learn from one another, and celebrate each other’s successes,” said Hill Country Alliance (HCA) Water Program Manager Marisa Bruno. More than 40 people, representing 27 different local organizations from 13 different Hill Country counties including Bandera, Blanco, Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Gillespie, Hays, Medina, Real, Travis, and Uvalde attended the grassroots gathering, which was organized by HCA.

This past week I shared the State of the City presentation to the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce. In preparing for this annual event, it’s a time to reflect briefly on what’s been accomplished, but more importantly to look forward and discuss what’s coming.

There is a very interesting parallel existing in our world today with a spiritual condition that exists with those of us who call ourselves Christians. Some of you may not like my description of the first half of the parallel but I trust you will give it the benefit of an open mind.

Chris Elliff has been interested in painting since early childhood. However, marriage and raising three sons, delayed her artistic development. After a career in nursing, and an extended education in the health field -- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and Master in Public Health, she retired early to get a handle on personal health issues. With her children educated, married and independent, she returned to her pursuit of art. With limited formal painting instruction, and only one undergraduate class, she has developed her own style and vision. Initially realism was her focus.
