Boerne students make Merit scholar list
A total of 13 students from Champion and Boerne high schools have been honored in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Champion senior Nicolas Parra has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5 percent of the state’s senior students.
Students complete an application to be considered for National Merit Finalist. Finalists will be announced in early 2024.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic prowess, including nine from Champion High School and three from Boerne High School.
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test PSAT/NMSQT).
Champion High School Commended Scholars for 2024 are Alexa Champagne, Mackenzie Edwards, Audrey Hawkins, Evan Kuhl, Benjamin Matamoros, Jack Osborne, Abigail Partlow, Autumn Stevens, and Samantha Weltens.
The 2024 Boerne High School Commended Scholars are Hayley Blake, Owen Kalapaca, and Jonathan Manni.
