The Patrick Heath Public Library is celebrating its service to the Boerne community and all its other patrons for the past 70 years. All year long, the library will be showcasing the ’50s to give patrons a taste of what the community and country were like back then.

For more than 34 years, the Cibolo Center for Conservation has welcomed guests into a beautiful natural Hill Country setting for nature education, enriching community experiences and environmental research in action. Every day, we greet old friends and meet new neighbors who embrace the immense beauty and historical charm of our area.

March is an interesting month for amateur astronomers. The bright winter constellations are still well up in the sky and easily visible, but the spring constellations, harboring thousands of galaxies, are rising up in the east.

In addition to bringing us the sweet joys of Valentine’s Day, February is also Black History Month. Throughout the month, our youth department celebrates Black Americans and the many contributions they have made throughout history and continue to make today.

The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed Bracken Christian School into its Boerne business community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Bracken Christian School in Boerne is located at 215 Water St. and partners with Christian families through leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit to provide an excellent education within the context of biblical worldview, equipping students to impact their culture for Christ. Bracken offers classes for children starting at 4 years old and in prekindergarten and goes up through 12th grade. The public is invited to a service of worship and installation at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Bandera Road in Boerne, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. The Rev. Ann Marie Quigley-Swanson will be installed as pastor/ head of staff at St. Mark.

My column that appeared in this space a couple of weeks was, at least in my opinion, kind of deep. In it, I talked about being in or close to the golden years – the late fall or early winter of life as I called it – and how quickly time passes.

As we approach the March 1 primary and mid-term elections, this column will discuss the broad principles of what the Republican Party stands for.
