Library eyes future through strategic planning

We are gearing up to begin our strategic planning to cover the next three years, and we need your help to make the best decisions!

We are gearing up to begin our strategic planning to cover the next three years, and we need your help to make the best decisions!

Please visit boernelibrary.org and click on the survey link on the main page. We assure you the survey is brief, but the results are so important to us.

If you’re not comfortable with completing the survey electronically, we do have paper copies at the front desk. Please let your Spanish-speaking friends and family know that they can complete the survey in Spanish.

Get set for summer

Every year, we encourage to learn about new and wonderful worlds, be they oceans, countries, foods, etc. This year will be a little different!

The library is planning programming for all ages and it’s all about traveling back in time to the 1950s. We continue celebrating our 70 th anniversary of serving the community, so we thought we could have some real fun with this.

Our theme is “Read Around the Clock,” and the brochures will be coming out soon so you can start making plans.

Speaking of which …

For the month of May, the library will be showing off its “Graduating Class of 1952.” Visit the gallery space on the first floor to get a look at the seniors of Patrick Heath High School. The staff had a great time creating this flashback to the ‘50s. You’ll see the scamps, scholars, the athletes, plus a few faculty members. It’s a peachy keen display we’re proud of!

Youth programming change

Just for the month of May, our regular Wednesday toddler storytime, “Little Listeners,” will take on a new time and new name.

Welcome to “Daybreak Donuts” with Miss Constance! Each Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m., little ones are encouraged to join us on the back lawn, weather permitting, for doughnuts, stories, songs and crafts.

The “Sensory Studio” program for babies will still take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Youth Activity Room.

Food for Thought For all our fans of literary

For all our fans of literary fiction, our book discussion group will be meeting in a different location for the month of May. Book club member and all-around generous person Nancy Sultenfuss will be facilitating the meeting at noon on Monday, May 9, in the firstfloor community room.

The group will be discussing the book, “Writers and Lovers,” by Lily King. We hope to see you there!

May 14 is a busy day

It seems the library will be the place to be on Saturday, May 14. We have programming for children and adults.

At 10:30 a.m. in the Youth Activity Room, children will howl with delight at an event celebrating author Dav Pilkey’s popular “Dog Man” series. This STEM program features a real canine that works with the Boerne Police Department.

Additionally, youngsters will have the opportunity to test their fingerprinting skills, run a police training obstacle course and create their very own human-edible kibble. At 11 a.m. in the lobby, visitors will get the chance to meet author Antonina Duridanova. She’ll be on hand to sign copies of her fascinating book, “New Beginnings: From Behind the Iron Curtain.” You can meet and talk with Antonina until 1 p.m. that day.

Live! at the Library

On Thursday, May 19, from 7 to 9 p.m., the four members of Haywire Bluegrass Band will entertain the audience out at the amphitheater behind the library. Please plan to bring lawn chairs or blankets for a more comfortable evening.

As always, we encourage you to pack a picnic supper to eat under the stars. This performance is part of our monthly Live! at the Library concert series.

Movie in the Park

On Friday, May 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Main Plaza, library youth staff will be on hand at “Movie in the Park,” to provide pre-movie activities, including the ever-popular bounce house. You’ll also get the opportunity to find out more about our summer programming plans.

PAWS 4 Reading

Your child may think reading is for the birds, but perhaps they haven’t found that perfect companion to whom they can read a fun story!

On Saturday, May 21, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., beginning readers can practice their skills with the delightful doggies, Dwight and Bubbly Boy. The dogs have been through rigorous training and are perfectly comfortable around little ones. This is a can’t-miss opportunity for your new readers.

Say what? Are you under the impression

Are you under the impression that items for sale at the Bookshop Under the Windmill are just old, musty books, DVDs, and magazines? You would be totally amazed at how most items are practically new and have only been used once.

We are so lucky that people continue donating their gently used materials to the library nearly every day. If you’re looking for like-new, popular books, then look no further than our own little bookstore. It’s run completely by volunteers with the Friends of the Boerne Public Library, and proceeds help advance the library’s mission.

Please stop by the shop Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
