Boerne High School sophomore violinist Sam Igbo has been invited to be a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America for the 2022 season. Igbo was named to the All-State Orchestra earlier in the school year.

The Genealogical Society of Kendall County named the first winner of its Ed Mergele Award for History. Author Janice Hosking Brazil was honored for her book, “Voices Among the Leaves, An American History As Seen From Our Family Tree.” Brazil was presented with an engraved crystal trophy and cash award during the society’s January meeting.

The Roy Maas Youth Alternatives has a new addition to its Meadowlands location in Boerne, thanks to The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch. The local community service organization contributed a professional golf putting green for the 42-acre campus. The putting green is expected to help bring golf therapy to RMYA children, develop social skills, build self-confidence and learn a life-long talent. The green campaign was initiated by Rotarian Charles Pearson and was the largest service project undertaken by the FOR Rotary Club in its 10-year history. Early voting in the March 1 primary begins on Feb. 14 and runs through Feb. 25. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Feb. 18.

Q: We’re strongly considering adopting a baby boy from the foster-care system. He was removed from his birth home due to abuse when only a few months old. What do we need to know?

Four individuals are hoping to become the Republican nominee for the newly formed Texas House District 19 representative. Late last year, Kyle Biedermann, the current District 73 state representative before redistricting altered the state’s political map, decided he was not going to seek another term in the legislature. Biedermann could have filed as an incumbent in the moved District 73 or the new District 19.

The Boerne Police Department conducted an officer promotion ceremony in late January that city information stated marked several firsts in the department’s history.
