Boerne TX — The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded funding to the Patrick Heath Public Library under its Tex-Treasures Grant program. The library will use the $38,717 award to provide access to even more of Boerne’s history with the digitization of The Boerne Star issues dated from 1994 to 2010. The digitized pages will be available globally through the Portal to Texas History, where the issues from 1940 to 1986 can already be read, thanks in part to TSLAC. The 1987 to 1993 issues are currently being scanned and updated daily.

The Vic Vaughan Family Foundation (VVFF) has donated $50,000 to Love Kendall County Kids, allowing the organization to cover the entire budget for the following summer programs:

NEW BRAUNFELS– Local environmental groups and concerned members of the community plan to speak out against a proposed permit application filed by a Comal County landowner with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality at a public meeting planned for June 8th. The application requests permission to dump 600,000 gallons of treated sewage into the West Fork of Dry Comal Creek, which feeds into Dry Comal Creek and, eventually, into the Comal River.

JOURDANTON – In seems only fitting that the Boerne High baseball team won last week’s fourthround playoff series over Robstown to advance to the regional championship round in Bill Merrell’s final season with the Greyhounds In Merrell’s first year with the Hounds, back during the 2009-10 school year, the Hounds also advanced to the regional championship round to bookend Merrell’s career with regional finals appearances.
