Police release name of pickup driver involved in Oct. 29 triple fatality

Authorities released the name of the driver of a Ford F-250 involved in the head-on collision Oct. 29 that killed three members of a Pipe Creek, Texas, family.

According to the report, Carl Sidney Galm, 58, of Bandera, Texas, was driving his 2022 Ford F-250 westbound on FM 46 at about 7:45 p.m. Oct. 29 when he attempted to pass a vehicle on a hill, on a blind curve in a no-passing zone in the 7600 block, about five miles west of Boerne.

Galm's truck collided head-on with a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by Roger Waid, 50, of Pipe Creek, Texas. The collision killed Waid, his wife, Patricia Waid, and 14-year-old daughter, Blake Lynn Waid. Texas highway Patrol officers declared all three dead at the scene.

"The report indicated speed was a factor to the severity of the crash," the report reads.

Force of the impact pushed the Waid vehicle, traveling east at speed limit, backward and into a fenceline along the roadside. Galm's truck flipped, rolling over once, before landing upright and facing east, in the direction he had come.

EMS took Galm from the scene to a hospital in the region.

The Boerne Star is seeking details on what charges Galm faces, following the release of this information.

Existing state law gives a law enforcement officer investigating a crash up to 10 days to submit a report to the Texas Department of Transportation, which then can take up to four days to review and certify the report.

He took the best people in the world away. He’ll get what he deserves; karma will find him some way

We travel 46 daily — it happens all the time and it's terrifying. I wish there was a stronger patrol presence to help stop this.

I’ve been behind people that have done this and gotten lucky and it’s so infuriating. Texans are the nicest people until they get behind the wheel of a car. Then they become little devils not caring about their life or anyone else’s.

Lack of one second of common sense, courtesy and patience has destroyed MANY lives. A lengthy prison sentence is in order especially if Galm has a history that lends itself to carelessness.

We live in Pipe Creek and travel on 46 all the time. We see individuals passing in no-passing zones all the time. I am saddened that innocent people died due to the irresponsible actions of one individual. He needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

He should be charged with vehicular homicide.

He should’ve known better being 58 years old. He was no kid. Just in too big of a hurry. It’s so very sad.

Yep, you're absolutely right!

This isn't the first time this has happened.

So reckless as to be triple murder.

Crucify the guy. Can’t pass on narrow, curvy , hilly roads.

Must go to prison. You can’t pass on that narrow, two-lane road. With its hills and curves; no reason to hurry. Lives were wasted.
