Anti-gun violence protests were held in multiple cities across the state over the weekend, while the state has imposed additional measures designed to strengthen school security.

As I passed my tassel from right to left with the Boerne High School Class of 2022, I felt the breath of the past four years shared with my classmates brush through us with the slight evening wind. It was then that our adolescence ended as quickly as it had brought itself on. Fearfully, I recalled the many who had told me that high school would be the best years of my life, and with hope, I realized they wouldn’t be.

Q: I grew up in a very dysfunctional home. My parents hurt me in many ways. But now they’re aging and losing the ability to look after themselves. Given the past, I’m not sure how I feel about caring for them. What’s my obligation here?

This spring, five Boerne Independent School District students won first place in Incubator.edu@Boerne’s second annual entrepreneurial competition, receiving a check for $7,000 in recognition of their company’s comprehensive business plan.

Geneva School of Boerne Class of 2022 graduate Nicolas Siller received the Good Citizen Award from the George R. Kendall Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. He was selected for his qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism and received a $1,000 scholarship as well as a Good Citizen pin.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy ended earlier this month with a graduation dinner. The academy introduces individuals to the KCSO and offers insight on how it conducts business and why. The purpose of the academy is to enhance, through education and hands-on participation, the positive relationship between the office and the community. It is designed to give participants a better understanding of the mission and operations of its agencies to gain an appreciation of the current challenges facing law enforcement. Topics covered included patrol procedures, criminal investigation, jail operations, polygraph examinations, Justice of the Peace duties, district attorney operations, animal control, narcotics and a K9 demonstration, civilian response to an active shooter and scenario-based training. Geneva School of Boerne announced that Jeff Jones has stepped down as the Logic School headmaster to pursue other career opportunities.

The Boerne Independent School District announced that Curington Elementary and Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary schools again have been selected by The Flippen Group as Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools for the 2021-22 academic year. Curington and Fair Oaks are two of just 376 schools in the United States to receive the recognition.
