Thanks to the support of our community, voters in the Boerne ISD boundaries voted to pass BISD bond propositions 1 and 2 in May. We are very grateful to the voters for supporting this bond, as it was truly a grassroots effort, led by the Long Range Steering Committee. We are greatly appreciative to the total of over 80 parents, students, staff, and community members who served on the committee, and worked hard to help pass this bond.

Senator Nelson appointed to Texas Secretary of State AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today appointed Senator Jane Nelson as the 115thSecretary of State for Texas. The Secretary of State serves as Chief Election Officer for Texas, assisting county election officials and ensuring the uniform application and interpretation of election laws throughout Texas. The Office of the Secretary of State also provides a repository for official business and commercial records required to be filed with the Office. The Secretary publishes government rules and regulations and commissions notaries public. The Secretary also serves as keeper of the state seal and attestor to the Governor’s signature on official documents.

April 15, 1936 – December 23, 2022

Lila Clanton Cross was born on July 21, 1933 in Conroe, Texas to George and Genie Clanton. She passed from this life, in Keene, TX to her Heavenly home on January 1, 2023.

September 15, 1923 – December 31, 2022: Another of the greatest generation has left us. Theresa Pearl Johnson Dyer has “slipped the surly bonds of Earth and touched the face of God.”

Sharon Ferguson Gibbs was born on November 17, 1946, in Austin, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2022, at the age of 76. She was taken from us too soon.

Delmar Joseph Egli died peacefully in Boerne, Texas, on December 26, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born on March 23, 1927 to Edna (Baughman) and Dan Egli in Bloomington, Illinois, and grew up in Hopedale.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Kevin Lilly to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for a term set to expire November 15, 2027. The Commission supervises and regulates all aspects of the alcoholic beverage industry in the state.

AUSTIN – Attorney General Paxton joined a Georgia-led amicus brief in a Tyler, Texas federal district court supporting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s motion for summary judgment in a case against the Biden Administration’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (“CFPB”).

Well, sadly we missed the Mars occultation by the Moon Dec. 7 and the Geminids meteor shower on Dec. 14. At least, from my house, it was cloudy both nights. I actually got to see a few moments of Mars and the Moon quite close together on the 7th, but it was fleeting. One of my neighbors texted me asking what that bright pimple looking thing was next to the moon. Such is life as an astronomer, being clouded out.
