Cibolo recognizes city employee

The Cibolo Center for Conservation recently recognized Laura Haning, the director of the City’s Planning and Community Development Department, for her leadership during the creation of the Unified Development Code.

The Cibolo Center for Conservation recently recognized Laura Haning, the director of the City’s Planning and Community Development Department, for her leadership during the creation of the Unified Development Code.

The Unified Development Code (UDC) combines various ordinances relating to development into one document, clarifying the development process and strengthening the city’s ability to promote sustainable development while protecting the environment. The city worked with outside organizations, including the Cibolo, to create a responsible development plan for Boerne, information from the city stated.

“Laura surprised us when she sought the Cibolo’s involvement in the creation of the new Unified Development Code,” said Ben Eldredge, director of conservation at the Cibolo. “We were further impressed by her embrace of modern solutions that will make Boerne one of the most resilient and environmentally sensible communities in Texas. The result is a truly model development code worthy of emulation throughout the state and Laura’s leadership was fundamental to its creation.”

The Planning and Community Development Department was instrumental in the UDC’s development process, which began in 2019 and was adopted by the Boerne City Council in July 2021, the city’s press release stated.

“The new UDC is a great example of what can be achieved when the city partners with the community,” Haning said. “It is an honor to be recognized by the Cibolo Center, and we look forward to working with them more in the future.”
