The Kendall County Commissioners essentially denied County Engineer Rick Tobolka’s requested to rent brush grinding equipment despite the growing pile at the brush site near the fairgrounds, leaving the facility unable to accept commercial brush while residential brush becomes a growing burden.

Boerne’s City Hill Church played host to a “Serve Day” on Saturday morning as members pumped $20 of free gasoline on a first-come, first-served basis at the Exxon Service Station on Esser Road at the intersection of Highway 46 to anyone who showed up. The church set aside a portion of its missions budget to use for the giveaway and pumped the free gas in service to Jesus Christ and the community until the funds were gone.

Although Boerne, Kendall County and much of the Hill Country experienced some decent rainfall last week, resulting in just over an inch-and-a-half in town, more precipitation will be needed to turn the tides before the local groundwater district considers moving into Stage 4 drought restrictions.

The public health agency serving San Antonio and Bexar County last week confirmed two cases of Monkeypox while a third case was reported by a health official later on Friday. Monkeypox is a virus that causes blisters on the skin and can be transferred by skin-to-skin contact.

State wildfire danger continues to rise

As we cross the halfway point of July, wildfire danger continues to increase across the state. On Friday, Texas A&M Forest Service firefighters responded to 15 new wildfires that burned 651 acres. As of Sunday, there were eight active wildfires; the largest was the Nethery Road Fire in Kimble County, involving an estimated 3,500 acres. It has been 70 percent contained.
