The Boerne Family YMCA will play host to its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Walk from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday, January 17. The event starts at Main Plaza in downtown Boerne, advances along Main Street to River Road, then returns to Main Plaza.

Auditions are scheduled in January for the Omnia Youth Chorale, a newly formed youth chorus based in Boerne. The group’s goal is to connect young singers ages 9-18 living in the Hill Country and greater surrounding areas of San Antonio.

More than 20 new state laws went into effect as Texans rang in the New Year with another half-dozen to go on the books on Jan. 18, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Those laws include a ban on transgender athletes competing on sports teams that reflect their gender identity and penalties for illegally restraining dogs.

Q: I’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but I’m starting to wonder if something like that might be helpful. What are your thoughts?
