The long-running coronavirus pandemic has fueled a lot of anxieties – including financial ones. But some people have had far fewer worries than others.

I hate writing farewell columns. I never really know what to say in them, and whatever I write never is good enough to convey the strong, personal feelings I have for the community I’m leaving.

Earlier this month I took a business trip. I entered the airport, checked in, took a plane ride and picked up my rental car.

Art Waddle is Boerne’s premier community art show and sale. It is a festive outdoor event held in downtown Boerne on May 13-14.

Things are heating up in Boerne, and your Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to another busy month! The month of April is filled with events and activities, and the chamber is sure to offer something for everyone.

Ever wonder where April Fools’ Day got started? Well, according to the History Channel, some historians say it dates to 1582. That’s the year when “… France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called ‘April fools.’”

Boerne Mayor Tim Handren recently signed a proclamation recognizing Boerne’s two funeral homes as “an unsung but vital part of our community,” information from the city stated. “Our local funeral homes and their staff help many families during an incredibility difficult time. Kronkosky Place is continuing to host dances on the first and third Fridays of the month from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the facility, 17 Old San Antonio Road in Boerne.

Q: My 12-year-old daughter is growing up fast -- including her perspective on clothing. As a dad, I want her to get a good handle on modesty before she becomes a teen, but I feel awkward addressing this subject with her. What’s my role here?
