Several Chargers turn in record times at Hornet TISCA meet

CORPUS CHRISTI – Before the Thanksgiving break, the Champion swim team was at the Hornet TISCA meet hosted by Flour Bluff ISD.

The Chargers did well in the mostly 6A meet and had a few athlete break pool and school records.

In the girls standings, Champion was 4th with 290 points and the boys were 7th with 136 points for a combined 5th place finish of 426 points.

Champion was also at the December TISCA meet in San Antonio. For results of that, be sure to look in the Boerne Star.

A FINALS RESULTS The Champion girls had a fast start after the 200yard medley relay broke a pool record in the first finals race of the day Karly Whitehead, Kate Canales, Cameron Kellogg and Cora Skoog combined for a 1:46.25 to break the old mark set in 2019 by a Friendswood relay team.

Whitehead also finished second in the 100 backstroke and broke a school record with a time of 57.87. The previous school mark was held by Lexie Farmer and set in 2015.

Canales won the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.19 to set a pool and school record. The old mark was a 55.88 that came in 2019. She later swam a 54.19.

Whitehead, just a freshman, finished second in the 200 free with a 1:55.67, Addison Graham was 3rd in the 200 IM with a 2:10, Kellogg came in 4th at 2:12.65 and Skoog placed 4th in the 50 free after clocking in at 24.09.

Kellogg was 5th in the 100 butterfly with a 1:00.24, Skoog came in 2nd in the 100 freestyle after posting a 51.98, while Canales also took 1st in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.83 and Graham came in 4th in the race with a 1:07.51.

In the final race of the day, Canales, Kellogg, Whitehead and Skoog joined forces once more and turned in another 1st-place finish after they posted a 3:33.34 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Boys

Will Tolar took 6th in the boys 50 free with a time of 22.13 and Will Harrison finished 4th in the 100 freestyle after he clocked in at 47.68.

The Chargers 200-yard freestyle relay of Will Tolar, Will Harrison, Ethan Altermatt and Carson Muenchow combined for 5th in the race with a 1:30.43 and Will Harrison posted a 55.72 for 5th in the 100 backstroke.
