WACO - Richmond Randle broke open a close game with a strong second half to defeat Boerne, 42-7.

It was 14-7 at halftime, but the Lions outscored the Greyhounds in the second half, 28-0, to advance to next week's 5A-DII state championship game.

Randle (15-0) scored three TDs in the third to blow it open. The Lions scored an offensive touchdown and then a few seconds later picked off a Greyhounds pass that they returned 26 yards for a score to tally two TDs in 17 seconds for the 35-7 lead late in the third to take control.

Eli Nikolas caught a 27-yard pass from Hank Hendrix for Boerne's only score that came in the second quarter and tied it at 7-7, but the Lions scored the next 35 points to put it away.

Boerne finishes the year at 11-4 and had their nine-game winning streak snapped.

Afterwards, Greyhounds coach Che Hendrix said he thanked the seniors for the legacy they left with two regional championships in three seasons. Hendrix also tipped his hat to the Lions for playing a strong second half.

“We ran into a rally good team; we knew they were good and it was going to be tough," he said. "It was 14-7 at the half, it was a good game. I thought we had a chance but they got going in the second half."
