Boerne Champion held off St. Mary’s Hall Tuesday night in girls basketball and won the contest by a point, 39-38.
Champion’s impressive start to the season continues as the Lady Chargers improve to 7-1 overall. They were off Friday and then travel to Medina Valley Tuesday as they continue non-district action.
After that, they’ll open district play on Nov. 22 against Veterans Memorial.
Champion was up 13-11 in the first quarter and then outscored the Barons in the second stanza, 11-4, for the 24-15 halftime lead.
St. Mary’s Hall made it interesting in the second half after they outscored the Chargers in the third and fourth quarters.
The Barons took the third period, 7-4, and the lead was down to six points at 28-22 as the game went to the fourth.
St. Mary’s Hall outscored Champion but only by five points as the Lady Chargers held on for the one-point win.
Hailey Winn had a strong game with 17 points, Brielle Burdick finished with 6, Savannah Wayment netted 4, Kamryn Edwards and Taylor Burk both scored 3, while Saoirse Ray hit for 2.
