BISD girls, Geneva basketball teams in action

The UIL girls and TAPPS basketball seasons tipped off last week and several area teams were in action.

The Boerne High and Champion girls, along with both the Geneva boys and girls teams were on the court.

Boerne girls

Boerne High was home last Friday night and lost to Antonian in their season opener, 50-43.

The Lady Hounds (0-1) played Holmes on Tuesday.

In Friday’s contest, Boerne had a fast start and was leading 14-6 at the end of one but slowed down over the next two quarters before a strong finish in the fourth that came up short.

Antonian outscored BHS in the second, 10-5, and 18-6 in the third for the 34-25 lead.

Boerne rallied in the fourth and dropped in 18 points, but couldn’t catch the Apaches, who kept pace with 16 points.

Chloe Donnell had a strong game and finished with 21 points for Boerne, Meredith Mcleod finished with 9 points, Savannah Salinas scored 7 and Hartlee Menn and Addison Saur both netted 3.

Jenna Ruede tallied 4 assists, Mcleod had 3 helpers and Salinas snagged 7 rebounds and 4 steals while JT Hernandez also came up with 4 steals.

Champion girls

The Lady Chargers picked up a blowout win at home over San Antonio Christian on Friday, 76-22, to start the year at 1-0.

Champion was up 26-0 at the end of one and then outscored SACS in the second, 26-4, for the 52-4 halftime lead.

The Chargers won the second half, 24-18, to close it out.

They were at Harlandale Tuesday.

Geneva girls

The Geneva girls began their season on the road with a 53-45 win over Alamo Heights last Friday.

Maegan Riebel led the team with 17 points and Madeline Egbert finished with 13, while Morgan Howard netted 8, Payton Boles added 7, Kyra Petty tallied 6 and Grace Detterick had 2.

Riebel was one board shy of a double-double after she snagged 9 rebounds and also had a team-high 6 assists.

Petty pulled down 6 boards and Egbert had 4 assists.

The Lady Eagles host Mason on Wednesday. That game was moved from Tuesday to Wednesday because Geneva hosted a volleyball playoff match Tuesday.

Geneva boys

The Geneva boys were entered in the Castle Hills tournament and won all four games.

The Eagles beat Regents, 59-41, sacked San Marcos HomeSchool,71-39, defeated Faith Academy, 70-45 and picked up a forfeit win over IDEA Burke College Prep.

Wyatt Bruss tallied 75 points in the three games for the Eagles.
