Heath Library: Festivals, movies, music and more

Heath Library: Festivals, movies, music and more
Sisters Karen Ferraro, left, and Marty Miller stopped by the library recently to see their mother’s picture on the library’s ofrenda. The ofrenda is a large part of the Dia de los Muertos celebration, during which people can honor the memories of their loved ones. Submitted photo

THE BOOKWORM

‘Festival of Trees’

Our annual Festival of Trees fundraiser is right around the corner. You still have time to donate a tree or wreath to be showcased and auctioned at the weeklong event.

Bidding takes place the week of Dec. 2-7. The new feature this year will be the “Buy It Now” option. If you are interested in participating, please contact Leah at mayo@boernelibrary. org, or call her at the library at 830-249-3053.

Movie classic at Kronkosky

Each month, the library partners with The Center at Kronkosky to screen a popular classic movie. This month, at 1 p.m. on Nov. 6, you can come to the Center, at 17 Old San Antonio Road in Boerne, to enjoy the World War II dramedy, “Operation Petticoat.”

The often- hilarious movie features Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. This event is free and open to the public.

‘Live! at the Library’

We are excited to present our popular live music series, which takes place on the third Thursday of each month.

This month, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21, we feature those cool daddios, The Raggedy Cats. They play classic 1940s swing music as well as the rousing sounds of 1950s rock and roll.

We encourage you to bring blankets or chairs to comfortably sit, and you are also welcome to bring a picnic supper to enjoy while listening to music. The whole family is invited to come out and enjoy this toe-tapping, rug-cutting concert.

We’ve been robbed!

In 1927 Texas, Santa Claus enters a bank ... but instead of gifts, he pulls a gun. A heist gone wrong erupts into a violent shootout with lawmen, forcing the outlaws into a bloody escape.

The Last Man is a gritty, true-to-life Western of crime, survival and elusive second chances.

Join us at noon on Friday, Nov. 22, to learn more about the robbery, the book and the man who wrote it, Thomas Goodman. The event is free and open to the public.

Killer crafts

Each month, crafters and “crimers” get together to work on their special projects while listening to true-crime podcasts.

We are currently listening to “Down the Hill: The Delphi Murders,” and will listen to the two final episodes beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 7.

We invite you to catch up and listen to the other episodes prior to coming; otherwise, you can wait until we start a new show in December. The group is made up of all ages, teens to seniors.

If you don’t already have a craft project going, we always provide a couple. For details, contact Leah Mayo at [email protected].

Libby Quintero promoted Libby Quintero, who has worked with us for about four years, is now our new general services coordinator. She takes the place of Sandy Johnston, who resigned in mid-October.

Libby can assist you with booking our public meeting rooms, work with you on your library account, and order materials for you from other libraries.

Behind the scenes, she pays all our bills and she’s doing a great job. We are currently in the hiring phase for Libby’s former position of general services assistant. We hope to have someone in that role by mid-November.

Library hours

We will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. The library will reopen on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Veterans Day has been observed since the end of World War I and it’s a way to honor our veterans who love this country and who were willing to serve and sacrifice for the good of the entire country.
