SAN ANTONIO – Every playoff victory by the Champion girls water polo team rewrites the record books.

The Lady Chargers entered the postseason without a playoff win and now have two under their belts. After defeating Alamo Heights last week, Champion faced Clark Monday and clubbed the Cougars, 14-7, to advance to the next round.

Champion is 20-6 overall and will play at the regional tournament starting Friday. A win on Friday advances the Chargers to the finals on Saturday with a berth to the state tournament on the line.

The Champion boys were in action Tuesday against Churchill at Davis Natatorium. For results of that match, see this weekend’s Boerne Star Tuesday’s girls match was tied 3-3 after one but that’s when the Lady Chargers started to pull away. Champion outscored the Cougars in the second, 5-2, and took an 8-5 lead at the break.

The Chargers defense held Clark without a goal in the third quarter and scored 3 more goals themselves for the 11-5 advantage.

Champion closed it out in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Cougars, 3-2, for the football like score of 14-7.
