The Geneva School of Boerne football team just came off one high-scoring game and head coach Grant Gaston said he wouldn’t be surprised if his Eagles are in another shootout this Friday.

Geneva hosts Austin’s Hill Country Christian in Boerne Friday, 7 p.m. It’s also homecoming and senior night.

The Eagles dropped last week’s game to New Braunfels Christian Academy, 51-48. It was NBCA that went overtime with Hill Country Christian earlier this year, so all three teams are pretty evenly matched.

“Just like New Braunfels Christian, Hill Country Christian is a very good and explosive football team,” Gaston said. “They love to throw the ball so we need to be able to stop their passing game. I’m excited about how competitive our district is this year and we have lots of offensive firepower in this district to contend with.”

Hill Country Christian is 0-1 in district after their loss to New Braunfels Christian and Geneva is 1-2 in district (3-4 overall).

The Eagles are finally home after playing four of their last five games on the road.

Geneva was trailing at halftime last week at NBCA, 41-21, but outscored the Wildcats in the third quarter, 21-7, and at one point took a 42-41 lead before losing 51-48.

“We need to finish games. We are competing and our young guys are getting tons of reps,” Gaston said. “I love how many sophomores and freshmen have stepped up this year to be big time contributors. With such a young team, there is a multitude of things we can work on.

“Right now, we just focus on getting better every single day and we want to be better at the end of the season than we were at the beginning,” Gaston added.

In last week’s game, Bryce Hanover completed 14 of 31 passes for four TDs, Brady Chandler caught 7 passes for 220 yards and 3 scores, while Noah Brunsvold snagged 4 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Hanover also ran for two scores, while Reid Wilson rumbled for 34 yards on 10 totes and a touchdown.

Gaston said he wouldn’t be surprised if Friday’s game with HCC is a shootout.

“They are explosive and they are not a one-man show, either. All of their wide receivers are weapons and if you take away one guy, the others will hurt you,” the coach said. “Their quarterback has a strong arm, is accurate, makes good decisions, and can get out of the pocket. Their run game is strong too as they will lull you to sleep with the pass and then gash you with the run.”
