KERRVILLE – Boerne High competed in its first district cross country meet as a 5A school Wednesday in Kerrville at Flat Rock Park and the boys varsity team was just a few points shy of winning a district title.
The BHS boys finished second behind some strong pack running after four of their runners went 4-5-6-7. They ended up second by five points with a 48 and advance to the 5A regional meet scheduled for Oct. 21-22 in Corpus Christi. The 5A boys race is scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m.
On the girls side, the Lady Greyhounds were sixth and had their season come to an end.
The top three teams and top 10 finishers not on an advancing team make it to regionals.
Varsity Boys
The Greyhounds tallied 48 points to finish second behind Boerne Champion, which won the race with 43 points. New Braunfels was third with 78 points to all advance to regionals.
Alamo Heights (94), Pieper (122), Smithson Valley (126), Kerrville Tivy (193) and Wagner (194) rounded out the field.
Carsten Bain, Valor Menn, Barrett Crofut and Aaron Garcia were the four runners who finished 4-5-6-7 after Bain posted a 16:08.32, Menn clocked in at 16:12.63, Crofut ran a time of 16:13.36 and Garcia completed the course in 16:14.99.
Jackson Temple came in 26th with a time of 17:21.48, Ben Macias finished in 18:05.96 for 38th and Ethan Christianson turned in an 18:27.54 for 47th to round out the team.
Menn, just a freshman, was named Newcomer of the Meet.
Varsity Girls
A young Boerne girls team tallied 152 points to place sixth at Wednesday’s district meet.
Smithson Valley (29), Boerne Champion (47), New Braunfels ( 78), Kerrville Tivy (134) and Pieper (137) took the top five spots. Behind Boerne was Alamo Heights (175) and Wagner (202).
BHS had more freshman (3) running in the race than seniors (2). There was also a sophomore and a junior who ran.
Eleanor Davis had Boerne’s top finish after she was 22nd with a time of 20:07.61, Kelsey Farar placed four spot back in 26th at 20:40.48, Genevieve Sengler came in 33rd in 21:15.49, while Sophia Karageorge, Kiera Sawyer and Penelope Kirk took spots 35, 36 and 37.
Karageorge ran a 21:23, Sawyer recorded a 21:31.64 and Kirk tallied a 21:32.40, while Abigail Jendrusch rounded out the team with a 21:44.96 for 39th.
Davis and Sengler were the two seniors that ran on Wednesday.
