Boerne High snapped a two-game skid and also picked up its first district victory of the year Friday when the Greyhound football defeated Harlandale at BISD Stadium, 49-21.

Boerne bumped its district record to 1-1 and is 3-3 overall. They are on the road Friday with a trip to Victoria West.

In Friday’s contest, the Greyhounds scored touchdowns on its first three drives and tallied four TDs in the first half on five possessions.

Boerne was up 14-0 at the end of one after Matthew Garrison and Zach Freasier both hauled in Hank Hendrix touchdown passes.

The Hendrix to Freasier pass and catch capped a 99-yard, 11-play drive for the Greyhounds after an Indians punt pinned them deep in their own territory.

The Greyhounds recorded two more touchdowns in the second quarter. The first came early in the period when Ivan Perez battered his way in from the 5-yard line and the other occurred right before halftime when Matthew Garrison hauled in a 9-yard TD pass from Hendrix with 30 seconds left to push the lead to 28-0.

Boerne’s defense forced five Harlandale punts in the first half and held the Indians to less than 50 scrimmage yards.

The Indians’ last possession before the break ended with a Jake Perez interception. Perez also had another pick in the game that was wiped away because of a penalty on the Greyhounds.

While Boerne’s offense used sustained drives of 6, 11, 5 and 7 plays in the first half, they showed their quick-strike ability in the second half.

Two plays into the third quarter, Jeff Morrison found the end zone on a 15-yard gallop and it was 35-0. That TD run was set up by a 60-yard reception to Brooks Perez from Hendrix.

Boerne’s next TD was also a two-play drive after Hendrix tossed a 57-yard scoring strike to Freasier. Brooks Perez again had another big reception of 27 yards to help set up the score.

While the Greyhounds scored twice in the third, Harlandale also found the end zone two times in the stanza.

The Indians hit touchdown passes of 48 and 53 yards after QB Unyces Cestou found Michael Palomino on a 48 yarder and later connected with Braylon Tovar on the 53 yarder.

The third period ended with Boerne up on the scoreboard 42-13, but it was a long quarter as well because of the penalties. On Boerne’s last drive of the third that carried over into the fourth quarter, the officials threw six flags to slow the game down to a crawl.

Once the fourth quarter started, Morrison ran it in from the 15 to put BHS ahead 49-13.

The Indians added one more score after Cestou tossed his third TD pass of the night and found Tovar on a 10-yard pass play to make it 49-21 after the Indians went for two and converted.

There was 1:22 left in the game and Harlandale didn’t even bother with an onside kick.
