Police ID motorcyclist killed in I-10 collision

A motorcyclist is dead after a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 near Ranger Creek Road Wednesday.

John D. Vanzant, 49, who recently relocated to Kerrville, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Boerne Police Department said shortly after 2:20 p.m., Vanzant had stopped in traffic due to construction in the area when the driver of a dually pick-up truck rearended the cycle.

The police release said it is believed the driver of the truck was coming over a ridge and did not see the stopped traffic before colliding with the motorcyclist. The driver of the truck is cooperating with police and charges are not expected to be filed.

The westbound lane of I-10 was closed for about 2 1/2 hours. The pick-up, pulling a large trailer, had become entangled in the inside-lane guard railing.

The interstate reopened to traffic just minutes before 5 p.m.
