A few dozen artistic creations still exist for purchase in the annual Empty Bowls Boerne event, set for Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 205 James St. in Boerne.
Empty Bowls is a grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. More than 300 artists spent time handcrafting the bowls, designed by clay and wood artists.
Each $25 ticket grants the holder the opportunity to turn up at First United Methodist and select from the 300, which will be on display, ready to be swooped up and taken home.
Before the buyers leave with bowls in hand, they have the opportunity to take a delicious to-go cup of soup from some of the best restaurants in the Texas Hill Country.
Individuals who purchased the 25 sold-out “Souper Passes” should arrive no later than 10:30 a.m., according to Staci Almager, Hill Country Family Services chief executive officer.
Doors open at 10 a.m.; ticket holders will line up in order of arrival time to enter the event floor.
Remaining tickets are available on Facebook: Empty Bowls Hill Country; the website: www.emptybowlsboerne.com, by email: [email protected], or at: https://www.hcfstx.org.
The 2024 event will once again showcase the incredible talents and coordination of Sherri Jo Adams of Mudworks Pottery Studio, as well as the highly skilled group of clay and wood artisans she pulls together each year to design bowls. Each of these artists’ gracious donations of time and talent is what makes Empty Bowls Boerne such a beautiful colorful event to attend.
Artists include Stacia Miller, Brian Burchhardt, Barb Francis, Chris Buckingham, Leacy Piper, April Grunspan, Linda Manning, Marilyn Good and Sherri Jo Adams.
Mudworks Studio potters include Nancy Jonas, Elizabeth Major, Karen Schenck, Loralee Sprunger, Becky Trussell, Geri Clouse, and Cate Woods, among others.
“We are blessed in this community with many local restaurants who are supporting the cause by donating their time and efforts to supply the delicious soups,” Almager said.
Participating restaurants are Bumdoodlers, 259 Brantley’s Bistro, Hungry Horse Restaurant, Cibolo Creek Brewing Co., The Dienger Trading Co., The Creek Restaurant, Cypress Grille, Richter Tavern and Peggy’s on the Green.
The donors and sponsors who provide the financial support to make sure the event happens are Dodging Duck Brewhaus and Restaurant, Photographer Janine Poole, Stephanie Locke Website Design, SA Realty and Tres Bella Salon.
Bee Jay Molding is underwriting the event, Almager said, allowing the HCFS “Corner Cupboard” to receive 100% of the proceeds.
The Empty Bowls Project picks a different charity as recipient, Almager said, and HCFS was selected for this year’s campaign.
