A 53-year-old woman faces two counts of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for her role in a double fatality Tuesday on Interstate 10, just south of Fair Oaks Parkway.
According to witnesses, a gray Hyundai Genesis G80 -- driven by the injured woman, taken to a hospital for serious injuries -- was traveling northbound on the access road when it struck two vehicles, a white Chevrolet Silverado and a red Ford F150, that were parked on the shoulder. Three men were securing the red Ford to a tow dolly attached to the Silverado when the woman's car struck them from behind.
Fabian Pedraza Rebollar, 38, and Rufino Pedraza Rebollar, 46, both died in the crash, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's office. Fabian Rebollar, the driver of the Silverado, died at University Hospital at 4:07 p.m. -- minutes after his passenger, Rufino Rebollar, was pronounced dead at the scene, at 3:13 p.m. The unnamed driver of the F-150 sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to deputies.
Investigators determined through crash evidence at the scene the woman's car struck both trucks with no signs of braking. Open containers were found in the woman’s vehicle, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office officials, who are currently working to determine the suspects blood alcohol concentration levels at the time of the crash.
Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Traffic Safety Unit, and the Traffic Homicide Unit answered dispatch calls at 2:46 p.m. to the 27200 block of I-10 West for a fatal crash involving the three vehicles, with reports of a possible ejection.
Bystanders helped the female driver out of her vehicle. She was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.
The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators gathered evidence and questioned witnesses.
