SAN ANTONIO – Not only did Boerne ISD have six athletes selected for last Saturday’s San Antonio Area All-Star Football Game at the Alamodome, but BISD was represented by the Greyhounds coaching staff.
Boerne High football staff coaches nation’s best.
Boerne High head coach Che Hendrix and the rest of the football staff had the opportunity to lead Team Black into battle against Team Gold in a game featuring 120 of the best high school football players in the San Antonio area.
Hendrix said it was a great opportunity for he and his staff to be a part of the game.
“This is huge, it’s an honor for our staff to get selected,” he said. “It was really fun; I’d love to do it again.”
Hendrix said being part of the game made him reflect on his role as a father and a coach.
“It makes me proud to be a high school football coach, to see all these guys from the San Antonio area, their attitude and their character,” he said. “Athletics are a big deal in high school and to watch how it impacts young men like this, I feel good about our future. It makes me happy to be a coach and a dad. This is a big deal and to see the best of the best is awesome.”
Hendrix and his staff had about a week to work with Team Black and the coach said he was impressed with the athletes he had the opportunity to coach.
“It was a blast, they’re not just great athletes but great young men,” he said. “They were so coachable and so conscientious and trying so hard, it was a great experience and a great week.”

Boerne High’s Charlie Stahl, McCoy Bruce and T.J. Dement were selected, while Champion had Kieran Garris, Gage Goldberg and Sawyer Bolli picked for the contest.
All six were on Team Black, but Dement had Bruce had to sit out the game because of injuries suffered during the past football season.
As far as the game itself, Team Black scored on its opening drive but couldn’t score again. Team Gold tallied the final 25 points to win the contest, 25-7, before 20,919 fans at the Dome.
“We came out hot and felt good about what we were doing offensively and one thing would go wrong during the drive to keep us from capitalizing on a few things, but the effort was there,” Hendrix said. “It just didn’t go our way.”
