Dr. Kristin Craft officially began her tenure as superintendent of The Boerne Independent School District this week, touring campuses and meeting teachers and staff before students return Monday.
“I have already hit the ground running to learn as much as I can about this great district,” Craft said. “My first 90 days will involve numerous opportunities to ‘listen and learn’ from staff, students, families, and community to understand the future needs and aspirations to ensure continued educational excellence for every child.”
Ensuring safety and security of district students, schools, and staff remains a high priority, and it was among Craft’s first stops.
“My first meeting on my first day was with Chief of Safety and Security Rick Goodrich. I also met our School Resource Officers,” Craft said. “The caliber of service, the support of and coordination with local law enforcement agencies, and the district’s approach to school safety measures is impressive.” Craft said she toured the district with outgoing Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price, who will assist Craft in transitioning into her role as the district’s new school chief.
While Jan. 2 was officially her first day at the helm, preparation for the role began immediately after being named lone finalist.
“Before winter break, I worked with administrative assistant Melanie Richardson, and Bryan Benway to develop the engagement plan for the first two weeks of school, with a focus on meeting as many students, parents, teachers, staff and community members as possible,” Craft said.
She said she spent a day in the district in early December to meet with each school board member and the executive leadership team.
Craft has served as associate superintendent of academics and chief academic officer in Spring Branch ISD since 2018. She spent 20 years serving in district leadership roles, as well as 12 years as a principal. She has been a principal at every level, rising from elementary to intermediate and then to the high school level from 2003 to 2015.
Craft’s calendar has been jammed with events and meetings. She delivered the opening kickoff messages at both days of teacher Professional Development sessions this week, greeted maintenance and transportation staff, and spent time with central office staff, met students and parents at the Kendall County Junior Livestock show, met with the district senior leaders, and community leaders.
“I can’t wait to build on the incredible strengths of Boerne ISD,” she said, “ensuring continued strong academic achievement, positive learning environments, and a strong culture-driven workplace.”
