Library opens year with writing, art, movement groups

Movement Classes for Adults

Want to get off to a great start for the new year? Join us for a revitalizing experience at the library every Friday morning at 10 a.m., as we delve into the ancient practice of Qi Gong, led by our wonderful volunteer, LaVada Smith.

This ancient Chinese exercise focuses on breath control, gentle movements, and meditation to promote overall well-being and balance. Embrace t

he positive energy and health benefits that Qi Gong brings and start every Friday with a renewed sense of vitality and calmness, as part of our Silver Library Initiative.

Discover the bliss of relaxation and rejuvenation in our community room on the first Friday of each month at 6 p.m. with an open invitation to join a yoga class led by skilled instructor, Janeen Castillo.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats, fostering a personal touch to their practice; but rest assured, we have mats available for those who might not have their own. Both these movement classes are free to the public.

Free Art Program

Embark on a cultural journey as the library proudly presents an exclusive Chinese calligraphy class taught by Yaping Zhang, a scholar on Chinese culture.

Join us from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 10 and discover the ancient art of brush and ink. Registration is required; email Robin Stauber at: stauber@ boernelibrary.org, or sign up from our main page at boernelibrary.org.

Second Saturday Author

On Saturday, January 13, we are delighted to feature Shawna Holly, local author of the book “The Stories We Keep,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in our Second Saturday Author series.

The table near the library’s front desk will allow visitors a unique opportunity to engage with Shawna, discuss her work, and perhaps uncover the inspiration behind her compelling stories.

Books will be available for purchase, and Shawna will graciously sign copies, creating a personalized keepsake for readers.

New Writing Group

Starting January 20, on the first and third Saturday of each

month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., facilitator Mark Mainardi will host enthusiastic writers who are interested in giving (and receiving) constructive and encouraging feedback.

We critique most genres, whether book-length fiction or non-fiction manuscripts, novellas, short stories, articles, poems, screenplays, letters, speeches, etc. This program is free and open to adult writers.
