CALENDAR OF EVENTS: DECEMBER 31 JANUARY 15

DECEMBER 31

* Join Tapatio Springs for its New Year’s Eve Extravaganza featuring live music, dinner, dancing, and plenty of bubbles. Dance the night away with music from San Antonio’s TwoTen Band, and ring in the new year with a champagne toast and balloon drop. JANUARY 2

* The Boerne Chapter of the Native Plant Society hosts Ryan Bass, Boerne environmental program manager, as featured speaker. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., chapter announcements are set for 6:45 p.m., with the program to follow. The public is invited to hear an update on the city’s environmental plans, set in the Cibolo Nature Center auditorium, 140 City Park Road in Boerne.

JANUARY 4

* Kendall County Junior Livestock Association hosts “Bloody Marys At The Barn” starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show. Bloody Marys will be served by the showring, with the sheep and goat show at 8 a.m. and the heifer and steer show at 9 a.m.

* Nature Box Training from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cibolo Nature Center, 140 City Park Road. Learn to present Nature Boxes based on Texas standards for elementary schools around the region. Construct hands-on activities for lessons and teach the wonder of nature.

JANUARY 6

* Stock Show dance at the Nelson City Dance Hall, 8 p.m. to midnight. Enjoy live music by The Tailgaters; cash bar, and silent auction. Open to the public. $20 at the door; free admission for ages 7 and under.

JANUARY 8

* The January Meeting of the Hill Country Newcomers Club (HCNC) is set for 10 a.m. to noon at the Family Life Center of St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Bandera Road in Boerne. HCNC, a nonprofit organization, invites women to make new friends and learn new things through fun interactive social activities. All women, newcomers and long-time residents alike, are welcome. JANUARY 11

* The Boerne Area Democrats (BAD) will host Kristen Hook, Ph.D., at noon at Longhorn Café in Boerne. Hook is running in the Democratic primary for U.S. House Texas District 21 on March 5, for the right to face current U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican, in November.

JANUARY 15

* MLK Jr. Day of Service, Patrick Heath Public Library amphitheater 10 a.m. to noon. Hosted by Touchstone United Church of Christ, a short ceremony will be followed by a walk down Main Street to River Road and back, as a visible show of solidarity for MLK Jr. and the pillars of freedom, justice, and equality that he stood for.
