Chargers look strong at South Zone TISCA meet

The Boerne Champion boys and girls swim teams recently competed at the South Zone TISCA meet held in San Antonio in early December and the Chargers had a strong performance.

It was the final meet of 2023 and the BISD teams will be back in the water in January. The Chargers and Greyhounds are scheduled to compete Jan. 13 at the NISD Winter Invite.

Girls

The Champion girls swim team won 1st place overall for 5A. The Lady Chargers were 3rd overall and beat out over 40 other teams, including many 6A teams.

The Lady Chargers beat the school record twice in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.81. Junior Kate Deykin ( backstroke), f reshman Kate Canales (breaststroke), junior Cameron Kellogg (butterfly) and sophomore Cora Skoog (freestyle) made up the relay.

This same relay team, consisting of Deykin, Canales, Kellogg and Skoog, also took 1st place in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:56.11 (beating out all 6A teams), grabbed 2nd place in both the 200-medley relay and 400free relays (3:37.79), and snagged 5th in the 800free relay (7:57.83).

*Kate Canales (87 pts) 1st in 50 breast, 2nd in 50 fly, 200 IM and 100 breast and 3rd in 100 IM.

*Cameron Kellogg (56 pts) 4th in 400 IM, 5th in 200 IM and 8th in 50 breast & 100 IM.

*Cora Skoog (44 pts) 2nd in 50 free and 4th in 100 free.

*Kate Deykin (28 pts) 3rd in 400 IM and 7th in 100 back.

Other girl swimmers making B finals and scoring points were Madi Neuman, Audrey Olivio and Victoria Sperber.

Boys

The Champion boys swim team captured 3rd place in 5A. The 200-medley relay, consisting of Will Harrison, Jake Canales, Bexon Harrison and William Tolar, was 4th with a time of 1:38.23.

*Bexon Harrison (80 pts) 1st in 100 free and 50 fly, 2nd in 50 free and 3rd in 100 IM.

Will Harrison was the other boy swimmer to make B finals and scores points for the team.
