BOERNE -- The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) board of directors has elected Rich Sena of Boerne ISD to an interim position on the TASB board, representing TASB Region 20, Position D.
'It is indeed an honor to be selected as a representative of Region 20, which includes 58 school districts in the greater San Antonio region,” Sena said of the position. “I look forward to representing the traditional values of school districts like Boerne and the surrounding Hill Country on the TASB board.”
In 2014, Sena was elected to the Boerne ISD board of trustees. During his tenure, he has served on various committees and in officer positions, including president, vice president, and secretary. He is currently on the facilities and bud- get committees and chairs the Legislative Advocacy Committee. Sena is a 2019 Leadership TASB graduate and Master Trustee.
He majored in political science and international relations at Colgate University. Following graduation, Sena began a career in advertising sales that spanned more than 20 years.
In 1984, he joined a startup operation that brought him to Texas. Before the company was sold, he was vice president of sales and marketing and oversaw eight sales offices with more than 200 employees.
In 2004, he opened his own insurance agency, specializing in health insurance for small businesses.
TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students.
“It is imperative that TASB helps promote high standards and improve educational opportunities and outcomes for all students,” Sena said. “We need to work with the state Legislature in a positive, proactive fashion that will increase achievement and excellence for the 5.4 million students in Texas public schools and prepare them for productive lives in our great state.”
Sena is active with several local organizations, including Hill Country Daily Bread Ministry, Stand by Me Mentoring Program, Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, Boerne Sunrise Rotary, and Kendall County Republican Club.
