Tivy trips up Lady Chargers in three sets

The Boerne Champion volleyball team ended the first round of District 26-5A action Friday at home by hosting Kerrville Tivy.

The Lady Antlers are having a good year and it showed Friday as they swept the Lady Chargers in straight sets, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18.

Champion slips to 18-15 overall and 2-5 in district. They opened the second round of 26-5A action Tuesday against Veterans Memorial. They are home Friday to host Seguin in a key district match.

At the end of one round of league play, the Lady Chargers are currently sitting in sixth place in the eight-team district.

Only the top four advance to the playoffs so Champion will have some ground to make up in the second half of district.

In last Friday’s match, Raylynn Pitts and Brielle Boothe both tallied 5 kills, while the Chargers did serve well and dropped in a dozen aces.

Briley Wolff and Pitts both served up 3 aces, Azteca Crawford and Ryann Michalec recorded 2 aces apiece, while Samantha Calderon and Boothe registered 1 ace each.

Wolff came up with 4 blocks and Boothe had 2 blocks, Crawford finished with 10 digs, Boothe added 9 digs, while Pitts and Calderon both recorded 4 digs apiece.

Crawford led the team in assists with 7, Michalec added 5 assists and Calderon had 2 assists.
