Muenchow resigns from Fair Oaks Ranch council

Fair Oaks Ranch Place 6 City Councilwoman Chesley Muenchow informed city officials last week of her plans to resign from office.

Mayor Greg Maxton announced Muenchow’s resignation at the close of council's Nov. 7 meeting.

In her resignation letter, Muenchow, Place 6 council member since 2021, mentioned a recent move from the city as well as health issues with a relative as catalysts for her departure.

"After much thought and consideration, I am resigning my position," Muenchow wrote. "I have been fortunate enough to be a part of this amazing team and have thoroughly enjoyed my time doing so."

Her family member's health problems, "coupled with our move out of the city, has left me less time to devote to preparing for and participating in City Council meetings. At this time, I need to prioritize her health and quality time with my family."

City Manager Scott Huizenga said she and her family moved within the last week, an out-of-city-limits relocation that likely would have ended her time on council.

"I am grateful to you, the city staff, our entire council team, and the residents of Fair Oaks Ranch for allowing me the opportunity to serve our beautiful city," she said.

Muenchow, first elected to her Place 6 post in May 2021, was re-elected with no opposition in May 2023, when the length of terms went from two years to three years.

Section 3.09 of the city charter states the city must hold a special election if there are more than 365 days remaining in the term. Muenchow’s three-year term expires in May 2026.

The city manager said he expects the city to call for a special election in the next few weeks, resulting in an election sometime in the mid-February range.
