There were nine press conferences on Monday to kick off the Texas High School Coaches Association’s 91st annual Coaching Convention in Houston.
Guest speakers were Mike Bloomgren from Rice; the UIL’s Dr. Charles Breithaupt, Dr. Jamey Harrison and Ray Zepeda, TCU’s Sonny Dykes, Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire, SMU’s Rhett Lashlee, UTSA’s Jeff Traylor, UT’s Chris Del Conte, Oklahoma’s Joe Castiglione, along with THSCA’s Joe Martin, Adam Bauman and Ascension Seton and Nebraska’s Matt Rhule.
In addition, THSCA and Dell Children’s announced their collaboration to address health and safety issues across high school sports in the state, including rhabdo, concussions and mental health.
The THSCA also announced that Dell Children’s Medical Center has become the Official Medical Wellness Provider for the THSCA. The new collaboration gives THSCA member coaches and athletic directors access to expert clinicians, specialists, trainers and educational resources to help them prepare and manage all health-related issues within their programs.
Dell Children’s will also present title awards with the THSCA, including the Dell Children’s Trainer of the Year and the Academic All State Trainer Team powered by Dell Children’s.
