Boerne softball coach, 11 players earn district recognition

A total of 11 Boerne High softball players, along with their head coach, were recently honored by the 27-4A coaches.

Senior Ava Rodriguez was named the district MVP and head coach Chester Pettibon was voted as the Coach of the Year in 27-4A by the coaches in the district.

Senior Ava Nieto, junior Taylor Wilson, senior Taryn Madlock and sophomore Ava Renteria were named to the 27-4A first team.

Senior Heidi Maytum was the only Greyhound on the second team, while senior Isa Renteria, freshman Riley Partin, senior Cameron Cooper, sophomore Ryleigh Hastings and junior Jesseanna Aguirre were all named honorable mention.

Boerne High finished the year with a record of 29-10 and played for the regional championship for the second time in three seasons.

The Lady Hounds capped district play with a record of 9-1 to claim the 27-4A title. They defeated Gonzales, Bellville, El Campo and Alice through the first four rounds to face Calallen in the regional finals. The Lady Wildcats defeated BHS and went on to win the 4A state title this year.
