Seven Champion softball players named all-district in 2023

Seven different Boerne Champion softball players landed on one of the All-District 26-5A teams for the 2023 season.

Senior Ava Trevino and sophomore Lilly Ritchie were both named to the 26-5A first team, senior Kassidy Kureska and junior Riley Murrish both made the second team, while junior Marlena Spurrier, senior Emily Young and junior Dakota Salazar were all named honorable mention.

Champion finished the 2023 softball season with a record of 12-15 and just missed out on a playoff spot after going 6-8 in district.

The Lady Chargers went into the final week of the regular season with a chance at the postseason but weren’t able to clinch a spot in a tough district that included New Braunfels Canyon and Smithson Valley.

Both the Cougarettes and Rangers were the final two teams standing in the region and they met for the right to go to state, with Canyon winning the series and advancing to Austin.

NBC made it to the 5A title game and was defeated by Montgomery Lake Creek to finish second in the state.
