Songs of the Cibolo

AT THE TRAIL

AT THE TRAIL

Summer Camp at the Cibolo is in full swing. While the Cibolo hosts all kinds of engaging and fun programs throughout the year, summer camp is extra special to us.

Anyone who has attended or worked at the camp knows each day begins with group songs. These songs and chants are meant to get campers and counselors moving, excited and comfortable with getting a little out of their comfort zone.

Most Monday mornings are awkward, and some children are hesitant to join in, but by Friday morning, kids, counselors and even staff members are singing and dancing along to the happy tunes.

Here are a couple songs from the days of Cibolo past. While these aren’t necessarily the songs our campers are singing these days at camp, they are nostalgic tunes for anyone who may have heard them around the nature center.

Cibolo Song

There’s a little nature center (howl) In a little Texas town (howl) Some people got together just to save a little ground [CHORUS] Go to Cibolo, ( Cibolo, Cibolo) To volunteer some time (Going down to Cibolo to volunteer some time) Gonna repair some damage (howl) Gonna find some piece of mind (Going down to Cibolo to volunteer some time Going down to Cibolo to get some peace of mind) Well, the creek was full of garbage and the prairie full of weeds, The marsh was filled with rubble and the woods was missin trees [CHORUS] We used to see armadillo and turkey and quail Now the horn toad is vanished, and the bobcat lost a tail [CHORUS] Well, the city stressed me out, Some people made me mad, The traffic’s getting crazy, and the air was smelling bad [CHORUS]

Just a Garbage Man

I’m just a Garbage Man I do what I can To shelter the Earth From the rubbish of Man We’re running out of room The party’s ending too soon Using up Nature’s wealth Destroying her health\\ Let’s get back to the Garden Let the rain come down and wash away my tears I want to float down the Guadalupe River Where the song of Cypress trees is all you hear We need the trees for our air We need the humans to care We got to stop all this greed Give Mother Earth what she needs Let’s go romp with the children We’ve done enough damage for one day Let’s go bathe in the sunshine Make a circle and remember how to play I’m just a Garbage Man I see what you throw away Your footprint of life That you dumped yesterday.

Recycle that stuff! Replenish our world Make a better tomorrow For the boys and the girls. I’m just a Garbage Man (Repeat x 3) Check out these songs on our YouTube channel and social media! For more information about summer camp, visit Cibolo.org/summer-camps.
