McNutt D. Gayle McNutt, age 86, passed away in Boerne, Texas on Sunday, June 4, 2023.
Gayle was born on October 4, 1936, in Gorman, Texas, to parents Willie and Luther McNutt. He graduated from Comanche High School in 1955 and from Texas A&M in 1959, where he was the Outstanding Journalism Graduate.
His career as a journalist and public relations executive took him to Abilene, Houston, Austin, Dallas, New York, and Washington, D.C., then back to Houston (Missouri City) before moving to Tapatio Springs in 2004.
McNutt retired as Vice President for Public Affairs at Baylor College of Medicine in 1999 after 18 years with the college. Previously he served as Administrative Assistant to U.S. Congressman Bob Casey and later represented Harris County and the Houston Port Authority in Washington. He was Political Editor of the Houston Chronicle from 1970-74 and State Editor and Austin Bureau Chief of the Houston Post from 1960-66. In retirement he was Executive Director of the Executive Service Corps of Houston.
McNutt was a leader in many professional and community organizations and won numerous awards. An Episcopalian, his hobbies were golf and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther; their three children, Linda (Peter Hoffman), Gaye (Ben Smith) and Larry; and two grandchildren, Serena and Cara.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Luther Ernest “Mac” McNutt, Jr.
