AUSTIN – For the second straight season, Boerne High’s Tori Adams has earned a silver medal at the 4A state track and field meet in the girls shot put.
Last year’s meet and this year’s competition were eerily similar with the same 1-2 finishers after Carlie Weiser of Giddings won gold for the second consecutive season and Adams placed second behind her.
Both throwers saved their best for last in Thursday’s competition after the two seniors had their best distances on the final throws of their high school careers.
Weiser threw a 48-0.75 on her sixth attempt and Adams tossed the shot put 43-4 on her sixth attempt on the University of Texas campus.
“I’m happy with it, even though I didn’t PR, placing was the first goal and I was able to place,” Adams said. “My coach told me, ‘it’s your last throw, go out with a bang,’ so I went out with my best throw. As soon as I released it, I knew it was the farthest one, I could feel it.”
Adams, a Texas Tech signee, gave credit to Weiser, a Texas A&M signee, for winning the event.
“She’s fast and doesn’t let anything distract her,” she said. “She’s good.”
After the first three throws, Adams was seeded second going into the finals and was trying to top her PR of 45-6 that she threw at regionals and wasn’t able to, but held onto second place.
“43 will work,” Adams said. Junior Kendall Lemm also competed at state in the high jump and entered at 5-2, but wasn’t able to clear the bar on any of her three attempts. Still, she finished as the 8th best 4A high jumper in the state.
