The best baseball season in Geneva School of Boerne history continues after the Eagles defeated Brentwood Christian on Tuesday, 4-2, and advanced to the TAPPS DIII state tournament.

Geneva plays in the state semifinals in Arlington on Monday, May 15, against Cypress Christian School from Houston at 7 p.m. The winner of that contest plays the winner of the Fort Worth Lake Country Christian School and McKinney Christian Academy for the championship at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Geneva enters Monday’s contest with a record of 28-3 and scored first in Tuesday’s contest. A couple of singles and then a double by Colton Lutz gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the second frame.

The Brentwood Bears tied it up in the third at 2-2 with a walk and two singles with no outs, but the Geneva defense buckled down and recorded three consecutive outs to limit the damage.

It stayed knotted up until the Eagles took the lead for good in the top of the fifth. Guy George started off the frame with a single and was safe at second on a sac bunt and then moved to third base. From there, he scored on a passed ball. Guy Kohler, who walked in the inning, stole second and scored after stealing home for the 4-2 lead.

Brentwood was the home team, but couldn’t do much in its last three at bats. The Eagles defense turned a double play in the bottom of the fifth and didn’t give up a hit in the sixth or seventh frames.

Shawn George was the winning pitcher and scattered 3 hits, gave up no earned runs, only walked 3 and struck out 8.

Geneva outhit the Bears, 9-3, and were led by Cannon Menn, who recorded 2 hits and scored a run. Colton Lutz hit a double and drove in a run, Guy George and Guy Kohler both singled and scored, Grant Roberson and Sam Armstrong hit one single apiece, Shawn George helped his cause with a single and George Viña singled, scored and drove in a run.
