Boerne police chief reminds of National Police Week

BEHIND THE BADGE

BEHIND THE BADGE

Our society enjoys giving recognition, and with good reason. From teachers and healthcare professionals to librarians, there is no shortage of days and months set aside to appreciate those who make our communities better.

Last week we honored May as Mental Health awareness month, and I just recently read how May is also Motorcycle Awareness Month. But did you also know next week is National Police Week?

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officer Memorial Day and the week in which that day falls as National Police Week. Many communities across our country take this time to honor and reflect on the memories of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and Boerne is no different.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office will host this year’s Law Enforcement Memorial at their office on May 17, 2023, at 10 a.m. During this event we remember our fellow partners and all they did for us and the community they served. Their families are invited and the names of the fallen are read out loud. Our honor guards will unite and pay homage to our law enforcement officers and their families. There have been six law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in Kendall County: Sheriff Sidney F. Edge Sheriff Douglas Kuebel Deputy Larry Kolb Trooper Kurt Knapp

Deputy Carlos Ramirez Community Supervision Officer Rusty Salazar So, while there are many important topics to be aware of this month, I believe we should take the time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our community. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God,” - Mathew 5:9. God bless you!
