It took two days to complete because of the weather but the Lady Greyhounds softball team was finally able to get its victory over Bellville.

The game started on Friday but was delayed until Saturday because of the weather with Boerne leading 11-0 in the bottom of the fourth. One it resumed, BHS finished off Bellville, 14-4.

The Lady Hounds added 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 14-0 and then Bellville, trying to save its season, rallied for 4 runs in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to kick in the mercy rule.

Boerne improves to 26-9 overall and faces El Campo in the third-round series with all games at Del Valle.

Game 1 is Thursday at 7 p.m., Game 2 is Friday at 7 p.m. and a third game, if needed, will take place Saturday at 5 p.m. Boerne hit three home runs during last weekend’s one-game playoff in Georgetown.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and a 1-0 lead, Ava Renteria blasted a grand slam to bump the score to 5-0.

In the second, with an 8-0 lead, Ryleigh Hastings hit an inside the park homer to score three runs and make it 11-0. It stayed that way until the fourth when the game was halted.

It resumed on Saturday and the Lady Hounds picked up where they left off. In the bottom of the fourth, Heidi Maytum blasted a 3-run shot over the centerfield fence for the 14-0 advantage.

Bellville didn’t go down without a fight and in the fifth, they cleared the bases with a double to get on the board and cut the lead to 14-3. A walk and a single drove in another run and Bellville was within 10 at 14-4 with only one out and needed one more run to keep the mercy rule at bay but Boerne pitcher Ava Rodriguez struck out the next batter. With two outs, she got the last batter to fly out to left to end the game.

Boerne only had 7 hits, but three were homers. Besides the home runs, Renteria scored twice and collected 4 RBI, Maytum drove in 5 runs in the game and scored 3 times, while Hastings picked up 3 RBI and scored once as the three accounted for 12 of the team’s 13 RBIs.

Ava Nieto, Taryn Madlock and Taylor Wilson all singled and scored once, Rodriguez singled, picked up an RBI, scored and walked twice, while Crissy Van Stavern plated a run.

Rodriguez picked up the win on 100 pitches, gave up 4 hits, 4 runs, walked 2 and struck out 10.
