The Geneva School of Boerne softball team made some school history this past Wednesday after the Eagles picked up the program’s first Area-round playoff victory.
Geneva left little doubt and went on to defeat Bay Area Christian in League City in five innings, 17-4, for the team’s first win in that round.
The Eagles improved to 8-5 and face Corpus Christi Incarnate Word on Monday in Goliad, 5:30 p.m.
In Wednesday’s game, Geneva scored 3 runs in the first and then the Eagles busted the Broncos with 12 runs in the top of the third for the 15-0 lead.
Bay Area Christian finished with 3 runs in the third and another in the fourth to make it 15-4, but the Eagles tacked on 2 more runs in the top of the fifth and went on to post the 13-run, mercy-rule victory after the Broncos didn’t score in the bottom of the fifth.
Madeline Egbert improved her pitching record to 6-4 after she tossed a 4 hitter and struck out 7.
Brynn Riebel went 3 for 3 at the plate and drove in 3 runs, 2 of them with a double in the third.
Lily Flora singled in the third and brought in 2 runs, while Sopris Oglesby finished 3 for 4 at the plate and picked up 2 RBI.
